ON SITE YARD PROGRAMS

PLEASE READ OUR POLICIES FOR YARD PROGRAMS BEFORE SCHEDULING A VISIT.

 

Lessons in the Yard

These programs include a 20 minute interactive hands-on lesson with specimens from our teaching collection and the following activities:

  • Find and identify Philadelphia city birds who fly through our yard.
  • Observe bees and butterflies as they fly around the Institute’s pollinator garden.
  • Make observations and draw pictures about what you have learned.

Time: Wednesday and Friday mornings, 10:00am-12:00pm

Length of program: 60 minutes

Group Size: 20 children maximum per lesson

 

Fridays in the Field

This time allows for children to relax and explore the ecosystem of our yard through scavenger hunts and other activites in the Wagner's yard and garden.

Time: Friday afternoons, 1:00-3:00pm

Length of visit: To safely accomodate as many people as possible, groups can spend up to 1 hour in the yard at a time

Amount of people: 20 children maximum or 30 people are allowed in the yard at the same time. Walk-ins are welcome, but you must reserve a spot if you have more than 5 people in your group.

Chaperones: Please bring adult chaperones:

  • one for every five children under 8 years of age;
  • one for every ten children over 8 years of age.

Note: Counselors under 18 years old do not count as adult chaperones.

 

Cost: All of our programs are FREE, although donations are encouraged. The recommended amount is $3 per child. This is a suggestion - - any contribution your group can offer will make a difference.
