In Memory of Laura Foster

It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Laura Foster, President of the Board of the Wagner and a dynamic leader who left her mark on museums across the country.

Laura joined the Wagner’s Board in 2015, capping a lifetime of work in non-profits, including 22 years at Philadelphia’s Please Touch Museum. She also served on the Board of the American Alliance of Museums and as President of the Association of Children’s Museums.

Laura was known for her energy and vision, and as a warm, compassionate and sensitive leader.  Throughout her career, she was a mentor and model for staff, volunteers, and board members. Most recently, as a professor in Museum Studies at the University of the Arts she inspired a new generation of museum professionals.

Laura took the helm of the Wagner at a key moment in its history. She has been instrumental in shaping an expanded vision that will allow the Wagner to grow, thrive and fully realize its public education mission.

She will be acutely missed by everyone at the Wagner, by her vast network of colleagues and, most especially, by her family and dear friends, who have suffered a profound loss.

Laura believed that museums play a critical role in our lives and understood the importance of supporting their work.  A memorial celebrating her life will take place at the Wagner this fall.

Gifts in her memory will help continue the work to which she was passionately devoted.  Messages and acknowledgement of donations will be shared with her family.
